Establishing climate policy and programs in Kazakhstan
Eco Ltd worked with the country office of an international development organization to develop a proposal to support Kazakhstan’s Third National Communication (TNC) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Eco’s expert conducted a desk review and stakeholder consultation and then worked with local partners to develop a proposal with features that would meet the country’s unique needs.
The TNC represents a new direction for Kazakhstan, as it has taken the step of assuming Annex I country commitments under the UNFCCC. Project design efforts focused on expanding the country’s climate policy and programs to meet new obligations and on establishing programs and expertise to systematize the national communications process. This strategy will allow Kazakhstan’s reports to align with submissions from the original Annex I countries within 5 years.
