Promoting renewables among small enterprises in India
Eco worked with UNIDO to develop a project to promote energy efficiency and renewable energy among micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises in India. The project began with funding from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) in January of 2010. This project development process included designing sustainable market stimulation strategies for increasing the use of energy efficient (EE) production technology and renewable energy (RE) sources in various energy-intensive industries.
Dr Grant Ballard-Tremeer led the process of transforming the reports carried out by engineering teams in India into a viable project proposal which secured funding and allowed the project managers to hit the ground running with a clear and complete project plan. Eco also provided an in-depth analysis of the potential for greenhouse gas reductions during the project. The project mobilised over USD 7.1 million from the GEF and approximately USD 26.2 million from other sources. The project is also directly linked with a World Bank project which will addresses energy efficiency among a different set of industrial actors in India.
