GCF insight #17 – Stakeholder views on the Green Climate Fund’s direct access modality

10 March 2021, Category: All insights, GCF insight, News, Tags: , ,

In this seventeenth edition of GCF insight, we hear from stakeholders on their views of the GCF’s direct access modality, including key benefits, challenges and knowledge gaps, to suggest the approaches to improve the effectiveness of direct access.

Direct access occurs when national or regional entities become accredited to receive finance directly from climate funds. It does not require finance to be channeled through an international organisation, such as a UN agency or multilateral development bank. The Green Climate Fund’s direct access modality is designed to promote recipient country ownership and ensure that funding is aligned with their national priorities.

As always, we will be sharing this report with the Green Climate Fund Secretariat and the wider climate and development community. Please feel free to share this report with any colleagues who may find this of relevance.
